Thompson Comment: Laura Dew of Bentonville tests the water at Beaver Lake Saturday while Melissa Dugger of Rogers (left) and Greg Yielding of North Little Rock wait until the last minute to enter during the first Polar Bear Plunge at Hickory Creek Beach. The event was to benefit Special Olympics of Arkansas. Yielding, a constable in North Little Rock, was sponsored by TCA Cable and raised $300. Dew and Dugger, representing Wal-Mart International, managed to raise $350 together. Dew also won the skimpiest suit contest. The 18 people participating in the event raised more than $3000. The Polar Bear Plunge is working in conjunction with the Northwest Arkansas Law enforcement Torch Run. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 2/27/99
