Barbara Lindsey, a Best Friends volunteer, works on filling the 100 gift bags with apples, oranges, and candies before the Christmas party, as each year children are treated to presents, food, and a chance to sit on Santa's lap at the Best Friends of Rockingham County annual Christmas Party held Friday night, December 13, 2004, at the AG building in Wentworth, NC. The Party is a collaboration on the part of Celeste Depriest her daughter Jennifer and other faithful volunteers like Lindsey who do the buying and wrapping of presents and the set up and break down of the party. The volunteers all say it is well worth their time and effort even if one needy child has a Christmas with gifts, food, decorations, and Santa when that child might not recieve any of it for lack of money or other more unfortunate reasons. According to Celeste, 100% of the money donated to Best Friends by individuals and businesses goes to the needy children and families that are sponsored. She says they are always looking for more volunteers as they are still working on their Christmas Project which is just as much work. They will be buying presents and taking them to needy families for Christmas, sometimes as late as Christmas Eve.
