At 8 am on a chilly Thursday morning, December 2, 2004, Lindzey McIntyre, his wife, and Lillian Dunk look on in amazement, perhaps feeling a sense of loss and shared confusion as to why a fire took Lillian's house November 22. IT was to be one of the last houses to be nearly completed at 904 Pine Street in neighborhood comprising of all houses made by Habitat for Humanity, Americrop, and many local volunteers. The dedication taking place this morning shares the disappointment and frustration everyone who worked on Lilian's house is feeling. But the speeches are also bringing out a sense of pride and hope ffrom the sense of becoming a community amongst the groups and individuals involved in the construction of the neighborhood and the new home owners as the houses have risen. They are all promising Lillian's new house will be ready almost at the date that is would have been and they say she will be able to move in with her two younger teenage daughters before Christmas Eve; an enormous feat to accomplish as it will be nine months worth of work to be accomplished in only four weeks.
