| Lillian Dunk grants an interview December 16, 2004 in the evening to a News and Record reporter in her current apartment off High Point St. in Greensboro, NC, after struggling to deal with all the media attention surrounding the circumstances of her nearly complete Habitat for Humanity House which had only recently burned. The source of the fire was investigated, but is up to this point still unknown and may never be known, she says after talking to the police on several occasions. She says she had no enemies she knew of, and the only possibilities anyone could suggest were a possible tresspassing of kids or homeless persons who either made a fire to keep warm on the back porch or made a fire which got out of hand and was left to burn destroying the house. She said that reporters from various news channels and other media outlets had been calling her at work, getting her in trouble with her boss, and also at home where she said she needed the peace and quiet with her children to deal with her work and stress from the ordeal. She was reluctant to grant any interviews after the intial ceremony dedicating her new house, being bombarded by all the reporters and cameras on teh scene on December 2, 2004, but agreed with the News and Record as they had not been unobtrusive and understanding about her not wanting to get her family involved. Her two younger teenage daughters did not want to be on TV or have their pictures taken. Her children where here with her during the interview, but remained quiet and listened to their mother and let her answer for them if a question was raised about their well being given the circumstances they themselves were having to deal with regarding all the attention. She also made it clear how it was a blessing in a sense, being this was her burden to bear, as she did not know how some of the other new home owners would have dealt with the devestating emotions following such a tragic event. She says simply her soul guiding light throughtout has been her belief in God and His wealth and strength to help her understand, except, and ultimately learn humility from this experience, and she feels that the community outpouring of help has already been more than enough proof for her, showing how there is goodnees and kindesss enough in many peoples hearts to help her as much as they possibly can to get back on her feet and make it through this "trial", which she thanks God and her family for giving her the strength and support to come to terms with her life and be humbled. |
